The virtual peripheral nerve academy: education for the identification and treatment of peripheral nerve disorders

Millions of people around the globe suffer peripheral nerve injuries caused by trauma and medical disorders. However, school curricula are profoundly deficient in education. This lack knowledge within healthcare profession may cause inadequate patient care. We developed Virtual Peripheral Nerve Academy (VPNA) as a reusable virtual learning environment to provide students with detailed education on nervous system (PNS). Students introduced PNS through 3D rendering human body, wherein they visualize individual nerves dissection observe normal motor sensory function associated each nerve. structures that absent from traditional texts included this visualization, ranging innervation joints anatomic variation required for differential diagnosis pain after an injury. Detailed modules disorders allow pathophysiological mechanisms, symptomatology, appropriate treatments. briefed clinical case, then interact avatar learn diagnostics, including physical exam maneuvers electrodiagnostic testing. Interactive surgeries detail surgical techniques. The VPNA data analytics dashboards course instructors assess skill improvement identify specific needs. built-in learner management availability both computer-based reality platforms facilitate integration into any existing curricula. Ultimately, immersive technology enables every student about gain competency treating real-life pathologies.
